Legally Blonde to the Rescue?
Hello again! It’s nearing the end of February and still snowing here in Utah. I don’t mind……for now :) The 4 seasons are beautiful and remind me of the natural ebb and flow of life. Eventually, though, my thoughtful regard for winter will turn into grumpiness and I'll be ready for sunnier skies and warmer temps. My birthday is also this month :) Which means a Red Robin Mountain High Mud Pie is coming my way. See right there where it says fan fave? Yeah, that's cause it's the

Opt in, Opt out or Cherry Pick?
Hello again :) I am currently sitting at a booth in Chick-fil-A on a Friday night writing the beginning of this blog post while watching my two tiny humans out of the corner of my eye as they run around in the play place. Yeah, you can guess how productive that was. Anyway, it’s November! How did we get here…..? I’m sure you can guess the topic for this month. Black Friday. I didn’t write about it last November, so it's perfect. So….Black Friday! Whew! Lots of thoughts….. Fi

Fashion Reimagined
Hello October! How’s everyone doing? Exchanging pleasantries doesn’t really make sense for a blog post…..but it also doesn’t feel quite right to not ask :) I hope anyone reading finds themselves having a pleasant day :) I debated what to write about this month, as the natural topic for October in the conscious fashion space is Halloween costumes. (The inherent fast fashion- ness of it all; cheap one-time-use materials destined to be thrown out on November 1st). But I was much

Fashion Week: Divorce or Reinvent?
Ah, September. Fashion Week. The Vogue Issue. ( Thee Vogue Issue). A change of seasons. Fall Fashion Week is the industry’s biggest time of year. (More like Fall Fashion Month, seeing as it goes on for 4 weeks in 4 different cities; New York, London, Paris and Milan). September is the 9th month, but in fashion, it may as well be the first month. It marks the beginning of a change of seasons, setting the mood and trends for the following year. Conscious Fashion Directory!
After months of researching and slowly compiling here and there, I am very excited to release my Conscious Fashion Directory! What once started out as a personal list of conscious fashion certifications turned into a rough questionnaire, turned document, turned spreadsheet, that eventually evolved into a much more user-friendly (and gorgeous looking if I don’t say so myself ;) free, downloadable PFD! Fast Fashion Teachings?
April was quite a busy month for the fashion industry. Earth Day. The Sustainable Fashion Forum Conference. Kingpins Amsterdam. Fashion Revolution Week. It’s been quite a packed calendar. Although it would have been a dream to be able to attend all the events, I was excited and grateful that this year marked my first time buying a digital ticket to the Sustainable Fashion Forum Conference. Held every year virtually and now in person, the digital content platform & community c

PreLoved Update
In the last post, I shared my experience with new secondhand store PreLoved here in Utah. If you didn’t catch it, hit your good ol’ back button and click "Secondhand Spin" before reading this one :) Here's the update on how much I ended up making as well as my overall thoughts. Total made: $21.65. Not great but not horrible. I really had no idea what to expect. It's a new business model and as the first of its kind in Utah, I needed to be educated about the process. The ROI w

Circular fashion?
Last month I dove into the phrase "sustainable fashion.” For those who didn’t catch it or don’t want to spend a whopping 4 minutes to read up - I’ll be extra nice and give you the tl;dr version :) Sustainable fashion refers to apparel that is made more responsibly or ethically than traditional fashion business models and practices. I.e.: the clothing is made in less harmful and less impactful ways to the global environment, local communities, animals, and garment workers. “S

What is "Sustainable Fashion?"
This is many times, the first question I get asked upon introductions. It’s also one of the most debated questions in the industry because there is no ONE set in stone answer; which means when it comes down to it, there’s no ONE organization, entity, company, person, or government that inspects each and every piece of clothing created and declares: “This piece of clothing is sustainable!” And slaps a label on it. Or, “this does not pass the sustainability test! Denied!” Ha! W

Come Back Poly?
tl;dr I believe the usage of recycled polyester is not helping the real problems of the apparel industry and the marketing of it is greenwashing. tl;dr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=760jO4nJoEk As immersed as I am in the world of sustainable fashion, I don't know every facet of it through and through.....yet ;) And there is ALWAYS more to learn. This sector of the industry was invisible to me for quite a while, so when a new take on "sustainability" emerges I like to dig d

Deadstock...is it sustainable?
First of all Happy New Year :) The holidays, projects, and 2022 planning have kept me preoccupied, to say the least. So I’m excited to share some more of my thoughts on a topic I've not yet covered, even if it’s a short post. So, what is deadstock and is it sustainable? With all the buzzwords going around in the apparel industry, here’s a quick rundown of something that’s gained attention over the last few years: deadstock fabric. In the fashion industry, deadstock refers to

Greenwashing or Making an Effort?
A few months ago I shared information on my Instagram about a more "sustainable" product coming to the market through Walmart. (the plant-based bra pad). https://vegnews.com/2021/8/walmart-sustainable-bras I was excited and hopeful but skeptical. Now I'm not so sure..... Walmart has introduced a new clothing line called Free Assembly. https://www.walmart.com/cp/3377730 Walmart has left me more cautious about sustainability claims and disappointed (but honestly not surprised),

Balancing Guilt and Effort; a Mountain to Climb.
This past July I went on a girl’s trip with my sister-in-law and her friend to Phoenix, Arizona. I know...Phoenix in July 😳😂. The trip had been planned for the hot hot heat because in Phoenix resides a store called Last Chance. Attracting sale-hunting shoppers, the store is a bargain-basement full of designer merchandise that didn’t sell at Nordstrom Rack. 🛍 It may be last season but who cares? Designer goods at deep discounts. Fun for yourself. No returns. Long lines. An

Too little too late Victoria's Secret
Although I love denim 👖and I focus my freelancing around it, I love other categories in fashion as well; one of them being lingerie 💋 So I just had to take a minute to share this. After YEARS.......DECADES in the bra business.....Victoria's Secret has finally launched nursing bras! 😱 My love/hate 💔💛 relationship with the company has grown even stronger.......the not so fond part. I personally worked for the company years ago and loved it so much. I truly felt like they t
